A real princess of the sea!
Little Mermaid Costume
There are hardly any mermaid costumes more recognizable and more familiar than the Little Mermaid Costume. Many of the ones that exist are costumes that are meant for little girls who like to role-play as Ariel, the feisty and loveable mermaid in Disney’s animated film The Little Mermaid.
When aquatic-themed costume parties are the order of the day, there are bound to be mermaids coming in, especially if there are kids. Mermaid costumes are very easy to envision, as almost everyone has seen one in the amusement parks, all underwater shows, kids’ parties, and definitely Halloween night parties. The Little Mermaid Costume is available to small girls who have a distinct fascination for mermaids, and obviously the underwater queen of all, Ariel.
Walt Disney has done a class job in stirring up the imaginations of every little girl with its all time classic, "The Little Mermaid". Adapted from the famous Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, Disney has dished out some of the most memorable cartoon scenes in the entire history of animation, and of course, some of the most unforgettable songs that go along with the animated classic. Little Mermaid Costume sales went through the roof as many young girls role-played their favorite mermaid.
The little mermaid costume predominantly involves the lower half of the body, which is the fish tail part. The wearer of the costume simply has to slide legs and hips inside the costume casing, and then flick her feet in order to mimic the movement of a fish swinging its tail fin. For the upper body, the wearer does not need something exotic to dress up in; it only requires a brassiere that has been modified to look like a seashell or a pair of clams.
The colour scheme of the Little Mermaid Costume should be done to follow Ariel’s colours: aqua green fish tail, translucent fins, and an aqua blue brassiere. Ariel, of course, is a red head with a fiery red clump of hair, so it might lend to an authentic look by actually donning a wig of the same colour and hair density.
If you want, you can always add accessories to the costume such as undersea-themed necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or headbands. If you want the full cast of Ariel’s friends to give your get-up more authenticity, you can always let your friends pitch in as Sebastian or Flounder. Imagine the hilarity of your group!
There are other costumes out there that allow the wearer to stand and not merely sit down for long periods of time. The bottom fish half of this attire is designed in such a way that makes the feet more free to move and walk around. The fins of this Little Mermaid Costume are usually at the sides of the dress and they typically look like large, frilled edges of a skirt, making it resemble an elaborate aquatic gown.
